Seoul Searching

The lovely folks at AtSeoul contacted me to see if I'd like to feature some of their products. While this is nothing unusual, I clicked on over to have a look at their merchandise, and lo and behold, it was actually a good match for both my taste and budget. (Trust me, it doesn't happen very often, but when it does, it's because I want the store and the products to be a good match for Fashion

Perfect Pairings

Like classic black pumps and a sheath dress, or a vintage concert tee and leather moto jacket, I believe that some pieces just go together perfectly. An example of such a fashion pairing for me is the leopard print and red combination. It could be red lipstick and a leopard print cossack, a red handbag and chiffon leopard secretary blouse, or some red jeans and a faux fur leopard print jacket,

Four Looks for New Years

While a sequin dress or a tuxedo-inspired look might be your top picks for a New Years Eve celebration, why not take inspiration from my recent store photos and opt for something less predictable? A metallic strapless dress, belted one-shoulder tunic, animal print dress, or a strapless rosette style are all equally as festive.

Trend On the Rise - Beautiful Ballerina

With the recent release of Black Swan, in which Natalie Portman portrays a psychologically tortured prima ballerina clad in Rodarte-designed costumes, it's no wonder that ballerina-inspired styles are taking a lead role this winter. Having seen the movie, which I highly recommend, I'm inspired by the pale pink, gray, and white color palette that Portman's character Nina wears throughout the movie

William Rast for Target Fitting Room Review

Despite unrelenting rain and holiday shopping crowds, I broke my no-in-store-shopping-just-before-the-holidays rule and braved two Target stores to browse the William Rast collection and do a fitting room review. As expected, I gravitated more towards the Men's apparel than the Women's, since I found the Women's tank tops, button-front tops, and tees to be lackluster. Perhaps other shoppers

Holi-Daze

Confession: with the exception of birthdays, I've never been much of a holiday person. When it comes to this time of year, I might even be a self-professed Grinch. (Call me the bad guy...I'm even considering breaking the news to my nephew that Santa is all a big lie. I think he's old enough to handle the truth.) In order to cajole myself into the holiday spirit, I've captured a few

Lace Case

Lace isn't the first fabric or texture that comes to mind when I think of dressing for winter. Its lightweight, peek-a-boo properties belie its seasonal appeal. The beauty of lace lies in its versatility; it contrasts well against heavier, more wintery textures such as faux fur, chunky knits, suede, and velvet. It also adds textural depth and femininity, especially when worn on accessories such

Casual and Cozy

After photographing and editing these windows, I developed an affinity for cozy, casual, layered ensembles. As much as I adore sparkly, glamorous pieces, there's also a time for relaxed, everyday separates. Red, white, and blue anchor these four looks, and the use of accessories channels a relaxed-countryside-meets-Native American vibe. Perfect for lazy days at home spent in front of the

Daydreaming at Devon

I joined forces with Sarah to attend the grand opening of the DEVON flagship boutique hosted by Jessica Stam and Scott Devon in Beverly Hills on Wednesday night. If you've never heard of DEVON, it's a new luxury men's and women's lifestyle collection that offers state-of-the-art timepieces, premium denim, leather, fine jewelry, home furnishings, ready-to-wear, and couture pieces, in addition to

Winterized

Although the prevalent southern California sun would have me believe that it's still summer, it feels like winter is in full swing with the mall crowds, holiday parties, and festive decorations everywhere I turn. As much as I despise battling holiday shoppers during December, it's one of the best months for shooting store windows, since retailers attempt to lure in the crowds with glitzy,

In-Vested

When it's chilly but not bone-chillingly cold, I think vests are an easy alternative to jackets. This season sees the predominance of faux fur and faux shearling styles. While I admit that vests can be difficult to pull off, I've discovered that the key to making them work it to streamline the rest of the look, since vests can be chunky and hide the waistline. Think fitted tops, figure-hugging

Accessorized

It's all about accessories in this edition of Store Window Style. Whether it's layered necklaces, chunky scarves, or embellished belts, they add a unique stamp to an otherwise plain look. With the ultra girly Lanvin ♥ H&M collection still ingrained in my psyche, I'm currently drawn to faux pearls, layered chains, and flower pendants. They're perfect for layering under or over infinity scarves and

The Season To Shimmer and Shine

With the predominance of glittery, sequin objects in stores this time of year, I've come to realize that it's one of my favorite seasons for buying dressy apparel and accessories. With holiday parties on the horizon, it's the ideal time for picking up fun glitter pumps, sequin tank dresses, brocade shorts, crystal necklaces, or beaded jackets. I gravitate towards the mix of rich textures and

Paul and Joe

I was in Paris for the holidays and came across the cutest brand called Paul and Joe. The store in the Marais district was really adorable and all of the clothing has the cutest most feminine details. I wanted everthing in the store!

I Want Lanvin, Not Flowers

The voluminous shoulders on this dress dictate an off-the-shoulder hairstyle and simple, minimal accessories. While I went out of my way to seek this puffy floral number out while shopping the Lanvin ♥ H&M collection, I've since realized that it was well worth it. Not only is it well made compared to other dresses in the collection, but it's a standout piece that's unlike anything else that I own

Who Loves Layers?

Finally! Cool temperatures (and some rain) in southern California are affording me the chance to layer up and make use of my cold weather accessories. It's the ideal time for playing with various textures, mixing prints, and adding chunky knits for warmth. These four windows that I shot recently offer ample inspiration for layering and adding accessories. Scarves, vests, belts, hats, necklaces...

Love for Lanvin

Call me crazy, I'm guilty as charged. You see, on Friday night, I decided to sacrifice a night of sleep in the name of fashion, namely Lanvin ♥ H&M. (Only for your floral frocks, sketched tees, and leopard pumps, Alber!) After seeing the increasing amount of listings and inflated prices for Lanvin ♥ H&M on eBay, I've confirmed that it was well worth it to wait in line and shop the collection

Timberland EathKeeper Boots

I wanted to share with you a great new find. Heritage brand Timberland has introduced a new collection of boots this year that are really stylish called EarthKeepers. The EarthKeeper collection are partly made with recycled materials but you wouldn't know if from the looks of them. Finding boots that are well made and will last a long time for a reasonable price (under $200) is challenging these days. Timberland has been making craftsman style boots since the 1950s. My favorite design aspect of these styles by Timberland is the mixing of leather and suede. I have a pair of the EarthKeepers Bethel Buckle Tall Zip Boot in Bitter Chocolate and I love them. The reddish brown is a really unique color and they are so comfortable and sturdy. Check out more of the Timberland EarthKeeper collection here. And the best part is Lucky Magazine and Timberland have offered Fashion Plate readers $20 off their purchase. Shown: Madison Heights Tall Boot $190, Cabot Pull On Tall Boot $200, Bethel Buckle Tall Boot $190, Cabot Biker Boot $140.

Summer Snow Art Exhibit

Summer Snow is an art exhibit that interprets the SS 2011 woman Mars̬ll Goccia collection. The art collabortive Nucleo suggests a snowfall out of season. Spraying white polyurethane with a semiautomatic machine Nucleo recreates the effect of random typical snowstorm on the shoes. The show runs Via Paullo 12/A Milan | 23rd September Р15th October. 26 Rue Saint Gilles, 75003, Paris | 30th September Р8th October

Fashion Week Spring 2011 Wrap Up

Here are some of my favorite looks from last weeks Spring 2011 New York Fashion Week.

Pretty prints from Rebecca Taylor.

Keeping it simple - Black and White from Rachel Comey

Pops of orange from Charlotte Ronson.

Ethnic bohemian from Anna Sui.

Tory Burch Spring 2011 Collection

Here are some photos I took at last weeks Tory Burch fashion presentation. The girls all looked lovely in their 70's inspired looks. Some of my favorite things from the show were the high waisted skirts and the bright pops of orange. Overall the styles were really pretty, flirty and feminine. Lots of pieces on my shopping list for Spring!

Opening Ceremony and Pendelton

For Fashions Night Out last night I attended the Opening Ceremony's French flea market at the Ace Hotel. The real stand out of the evening for me was the Opening Ceremony Pendelton collaboration collection. Opening Ceremony brilliantly transformed the signature patterns and prints of Pendelton into high fashion pieces.

Peep Toe Shoes and Tights

The first chill of fall is in the air in New York and has me thinking of putting my summer dresses away and heading and figuring out what I am going to wear! One of my favorite things to try this fall is colored tights with peep toe shoes.

Minx Nail Decals

I have been seeing the most amazing nail jobs lately in New York. Yesterday I saw a girl on the corner and each of her fingernails was painted a different shade of pink. And today at the pharmacy my cashier had the most amazing mint green nails and one nail on each hand had an intricate black and white pattern. I started to think am I going to the wrong salon? I did some research and found out that these crazy patterns are most likely Minx nail decals. They can only be applied by a certified salon which you can find on their website. Sephora also launched Chic Print for Nails which come in several fun dyi patterns $15.

Rope Jewelry

Lately I have been noticing all sorts of cool jewelry made out of rope. While rope on it's own would make a somewhat unexceptional piece, pair it with gold or silver, and interesting stones and viola some amazingly unique pieces.

Product Review: Havaianas

I first fell in love with Havaianas a few years ago when I was traveling in Brazil. I don't think I took them off for the entire trip. Havaianas Brazilian flip flops were originally made in 1962 (who knew they were so old!) and originally came in 8 colors. Nowdays there are upwards of 20 different styles and a ton of different colors. Some of my favorites shown here are the Havaianas Slim, Fun, Surf Girl, Fit, and Top Mix. I recently had the opportunity to try the Fit, which has an extra wrap around ankle strap and looks even more like a sandal. The matte gold is perfect for beach to dinner occasions like the Hamptons, where I will be wearing them this weekend. And you never have to worry about getting any blisters with Havaianas. I can literally walk in them for hours with no discomfort. Havaianas also has some of the most creative ad campaigns around. For more styles of Havaianas womens sandals visit their website.

Snoozer Looser Fall Preview

I just received the look book for the Snoozer Looser Fall / Winter line and had to share it with you guys. I have posted about New York designer Snoozer Looser in the past and I am really excited about her new collection. I love the mixing and matching of these funky prints and the styling is so great. The knee socks and brightly colored tights are perfect accents.

Product Review: Aveeno Positively Nourishing

I have recently had the opportunity to try the Positively Nourishing Hydrating body wash and Whipped Souffle by Aveeno. The products are infused with shea butter so that they are ultra nourishing and leave your skin soft and refreshed. I barely needed to use lotion after using the shower gel, unlike harsh soaps which can strip my skin of moisture. And after spending all week on my beach vacation to Cape Cod last week, these products were the perfect trick for restoring my skin.

Dominic Jones Jewelry

I recently came across this bold line of animalistic jewelry by designer Dominic Jones. I love the predatory aspect to these pieces and yet the gold makes them look chic and glamorous. They would be so fun to wear!

Mad Men Style Inspiration

Mad Men 1950s Style

I am excited for the Premiere of Mad Men tonight. I have noticed a lot of 50s inspired fashion trends for fall. Think cardigan sets, brooches, and full skirts.

Alice + Olivia for MAC Cosmetics

MAC Cosmetics has recently released it's latest designer collaboration with this new line by Alice + Olivia. I love all of the funky colors and the retro (80's) glam packaging. These pops of color will be really great for fall and can be used in a small dose during the day or in a heavier application for a more bold look during the evening.
